Who We Are

Thibi (say “သိပြီ!”) is a data visualisation consultancy that specialises in building interactive web-based data tools and visualisations. Our team is led by veterans of Myanmar’s civic tech and open data community with many years of experience in data visualisation, data-driven web development, and data literacy training projects with organisations such as Internews, Thomson Reuters Institute, Open Knowledge Foundation, the Natural Resource Governance Institute, and The Asia Foundation. Thibi is currently growing into a remote team of designers, developers, and data experts based out of Singapore, Yangon, Manila, and Chicago.

Your Role at Thibi

As a front-end developer at our company, you will collaborate with our UX design lead and back-end developers to build front-end components for web applications and be involved in the UI/UX design process for data-heavy web apps with designers, data analysts, and developers. We are also in the process of building an internal library of reusable UI components, which you will be helping to create.

Technologies We Use

Many of the projects that we work on involve building web applications that are data-intensive, ranging from interactive map interfaces that connect to a geospatial data API, to dashboards with custom interactive charts. Our front-end framework of choice is Next.js, with Tailwind CSS for styling, and we are transitioning into using Typescript for all our projects. For interactive data visualisations we use D3.js and for interactive maps, we use Mapbox GL JS.

We would still highly encourage you to apply even if you do not have experience with the above technologies. Our team values fast learners who are flexible and able to pick up new skills.

  • At least 2 years of React experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in building web UIs based on detailed mockups
  • Experience with CSS3, CSS preprocessors (e.g. SCSS), and Styled Components
  • An eye for UI design

The Culture

Taking initiative – We are self-starters. Our team members take responsibility and act on initiative instead of waiting for instructions.

Broad interests – We’re a tech company, but our team members entertain a wide range of interests from poetry and surfing to lacquerware and art history. We deeply value people with interests beyond technology.

Diversity – We welcome and cherish teammates and collaborators who represent a variety of backgrounds and life experiences, be it culture, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or religion.

The Details

The position will be fully remote. Most of our team is based in Myanmar, and we would prefer candidates who are based in a location with working hours that have significant overlap with Myanmar (UTC +6:30). We are a remote-first workplace with team members spread across multiple time zones in Southeast Asia and North America, and we provide flexible working hours with a focus on autonomy, responsibility, and accountability.

We would also strongly encourage and welcome applicants whose communities and identities are under-represented in the data and tech industry. As an equal opportunity employer, Thibi does not discriminate against any employee or job applicant on the basis of race, colour, gender, national origin, age, religion, creed, disability, or sexual orientation.

We offer a salary that is competitive for front-end developer roles in Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, The Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia.
